Under the umbrella of Skills Canada Competence, we coordinate our efforts with 12 other regional chapters in the country. Together we encourage, support and promote skilled trades and technologies to Canadian youth. Skills Canada Yukon is a non-profit society, incorporated in 1998.
We engage youth in elementary and secondary classrooms across the territory through skills clubs, hands-on workshops, and in-school presentations. We showcase trades and technology training in exciting and creative ways. Imagine skateboard-building and “chopped”-style cooking competitions. We support teachers and volunteers to offer content that engages and inspires their students.
Learners love a challenge. So we give it to them – Olympic-style. Our Territorial Skills Competitions and qualifiers see Yukon’s best secondary students and apprentices competing in diverse trade and technology areas. Winners are paired with masters and journeypersons in their trade in order to master their craft and compete at national and international levels.
Skills Canada Yukon works with mentors and volunteers, partners in industry and education, and all levels of government to invest in Yukon’s next generation of skilled tradespeople. We work together to connect our youth with hands-on opportunities to explore meaningful and rewarding careers in skilled trades and technologies.
